Arie Belldegrun, MD, FACS

Dr. Belldegrun joined Cougar Biotechnology, Inc. in December 2003 as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Belldegrun is Chief of the Division of Urologic Oncology and holds the Roy and Carol Doumani Chair in Urologic Oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

He is also the Founder of Agensys, Inc., a privately held biotechnology company focused on the development of fully human monoclonal antibodies to treat solid tumor cancers based on Agensys’ proprietary targets. Dr. Belldegrun served as founding Chairman of Agensys from 1997-2002 and currently serves on Agensys’ Board of Directors and as a consultant.

He completed his medical degree at the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, his post graduate fellowship at the Weizmann Institute of Science and his residency in Urology at Harvard Medical School. Prior to UCLA, Dr. Belldegrun was at the National Cancer Institute/NIH as a research fellow in surgical oncology under Steven A. Rosenberg, MD, PhD. He is certified by the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr Belldegrun is also on the scientific boards of several biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and serves as a reviewer for many medical journals and granting organizations including the Journal of Urology and the American Foundation of Urologic Diseases. In addition to holding several patents, Dr. Belldegrun is the author of several books on prostate and kidney cancers and has written over 250 scientific publications with an emphasis on urologic oncology, particularly kidney, prostate and bladder cancers.




Alan H. Auerbach
Chief Executive Officer, President and Founder

Mr. Auerbach joined Cougar Biotechnology, Inc. in May 2003 as Chief Executive Officer and President. From June 1998 to April 2003, Mr. Auerbach was Vice President, Senior Research Analyst at Wells Fargo Securities where he was responsible for research coverage of small and middle capitalization biotechnology companies, with a focus on companies in the field of oncology. He had primary responsibility for technical, scientific and clinical due diligence as well as selection of biotechnology companies followed by Wells Fargo Securities. During 2002, Mr. Auerbach ranked second in the NASDAQ/Starmine survey of analyst performance for stock picking in biotechnology. From August 1997 to May 1998, Mr. Auerbach was Vice President, Research Analyst at the Seidler Companies, Inc., where he was responsible for research coverage of small capitalization biotechnology companies. Prior to his work as a biotechnology analyst, Mr. Auerbach worked for Diagnostic Products Corporation, where he designed and implemented clinical trials in the field of oncology.

Mr. Auerbach received his B.S. in biomedical engineering from Boston University and his M.S. in biomedical engineering from the University of Southern California.




Russell H. Ellison, MD, MSc
Executive Vice President
Paramount BioSciences.LLC


Dr. Ellison currently serves as Executive Vice President at Paramount BioSciences, LLC, a biotechnology and life sciences-focused company that promotes the development of promising in-licensed drug candidates. In that role, he is involved in the formation, guidance and support of Paramount’s pharmaceutical portfolio companies.

Prior to joining Paramount BioSciences, Dr. Ellison was Vice President of Clinical Development at Fibrogen, Inc, a privately held biotechnology-based company involved in the discovery, development and commercialization of novel therapeutics for fibrotic disorders, diabetic complications, anemia, ischemic disease, cancer and other areas of unmet medical need. Dr. Ellison has also served as the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Sanofi-Synthelabo, where he was responsible for several key oncology products including Eloxatin (oxaliplatin) for colorectal cancer and Eligard (leuprolide acetate for injectable suspension) for prostate cancer. He was Vice President, Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Hoffmann La Roche, Inc. from 1997 to 2002 and held several drug development positions with Roche Canada from 1990 to 1997.

Dr. Ellison holds an MD from the University of British Columbia and an MSc (with distinction) from The London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.




Thomas R. Malley
Portfolio Manager (retired)
Janus Capital Management, LLC


Mr. Malley brings to Cougar more than 16 years of financial management and securities industry experience with life sciences companies. He recently retired from Janus Capital Management, LLC, where he served as a portfolio manager and securities analyst since 1991. During his tenure at Janus, he concentrated on global biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Mr. Malley managed several health care focused funds including the Janus Global Life Sciences Fund, which he managed from its inception in December 1998 until his retirement in May 2007.

Mr. Malley also serves as a director of Avigenics Corporation, a privately held biotechnology company based in Athens, Georgia, which focuses on the development of biogeneric pharmaceuticals. He graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in Biology and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.



Harold J. Meyers
Senior Vice President
Wachovia Securities, LLC


Mr. Meyers' career encompasses over 45 years of professional experience in various aspects of the financial services industry, including being the founder of Los Angeles based H.J. Meyers and Company from 1982-1994, serving as Managing Director of Wells Fargo Investments (formerly Van Kasper & Company) from 1995-2003 and serving in his current position as Senior Vice President of A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc., since 2003. On January 1, 2008, A.G. Edwards became a division of Wachovia Securities, LLC, which is a subsidiary of Wachovia Corporation.

Mr. Meyers holds a B.S. from the University of Denver.




Michael S. Richman
President and Chief Operating Officer
Amplimmune, Inc.


Mr. Richman is currently the President and COO of Amplimmune, a product-driven company using technology from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the development of immune-based biologics to treat patients in the areas of cancer, autoimmunity, transplantation, and infectious diseases.

Previously, Mr. Richman was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Macrogenics, Inc, a privately held biotechnology company engaged in the development of immune-based products including monoclonal antibodies to treat patients with cancer, autoimmune disorders, allergy, or infectious diseases and vaccines to prevent infections in healthy individuals. Prior to Macrogenics, he held various positions at Medimmune from 1996 to 2002 including the position of Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Administration. Mr. Richman also served in a variety of business development and intellectual property positions at Chiron from 1987 through 1996, including the position of Director of Corporate Business Development. Mr. Richman holds an M.S.B.A in International Business from San Francisco State University and a B.S. from the University of California at Davis.




Samuel R. Saks, MD
Chief Executive Officer
Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc.


Dr. Saks, a board certified medical oncologist, brings to Cougar over 25 years of experience in the clinical and academic settings. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Jazz Pharmaceuticals, a publicly held specialty pharmaceuticals company that he co-founded in 2003. From 2001 until 2003, he was Company Group Chairman of ALZA Corporation, which was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2001, and served as a member of the Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Group Operating Committee. From 1992 until 2001, he held various positions with ALZA Corporation, most recently as its Chief Medical Officer and Group Vice President, where he was responsible for clinical and commercial activities.

Dr. Saks also serves on the board of directors of Trubion Pharmaceuticals, a publicly held biopharmaceutical company. He received a B.S. and an M.D. from the University of Illinois. He is board certified in oncology and a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
